Dom recognizes the book as a real and serious work on occult rituals, not the usual fraud-ridden nonsense. They also discover a hidden compartment containing a cheap ceremonial dagger, several vials — one still holding a strange neon-purple liquid — and blood-stained jewelry almost certainly taken from Tomaszewski’s victims. The grisly evidence drives home that the Miskatonic Mangler is no rumor but a real murderer who has been cutting people apart and keeping trophies from the dead.
