Mathon is a bugbear in chainmail, with a humanoid, almost Bigfoot-like face instead of a bear's snout. In 3.501: Under a Strange Sky he wakes on the hilltop with no memory of who he is, introduces himself to the party, and, by his own account, is a perfectly harmless creature, though his appearance frightens the townsfolk of Evanstone.
In 3.502: Monster Squad he buys a large, slightly burned cloak from the shopkeeper Alam for two gold pieces so that he can hide his appearance in Evanstone, introduces himself as "just Barry McConnell" at the Stoneway Inn, and goes along with the plan to investigate the mayor's estate at night.
In 3.503: Polterheist he leaps across the rooftops of Evanstone, falls to the street when he slips on the wet edge of a roof, and charges the oak doors of Ebengard Manor in vain. He is badly hurt by one of the black stone creatures in the master bedroom, drops to two hit points until his second wind, and splits one of them in half with his longsword.
In 3.504: Gleaming the Cube he argues for a short rest so that the party can attune its new items and regain second winds, and he carries the torch that is dropped down the hole.
