Synopsis

The investigators open Bernard Corbitt's cell and find him on his cot with the torn pages and a finished medallion on a chain. He tells them not to screw it up. The medallion must stay in contact with the target's skin while the incantation is recited, and he coaches them carefully on every syllable. Declaring their partnership over, he hands it to the Major, who punches him in the face, probably breaking his nose, before the group takes the pages back and leaves.

On the first floor a guard and a nurse are chatting at the nurses' station in hallway D, between the group and the stairwell. Dr. Simeon pitches a bullet past them. It ricochets off everything down the hall like a fleeing patient, and both go off to investigate. Tallahassee works through the key ring until the stairwell opens, and the group climbs to the third floor.

The third floor is nearly dark, the lights are broken, and blood is smeared over the walls and the nurses' station, where a nurse's legs stick out from around the corner. Footsteps and laughter echo from different directions as Billy's radio flares into life. Tallahassee locks the stairwell door behind them and pockets the key, and the group heads for hallway D in "mullet formation." A huge, blood-soaked inmate appears, dragging a dead guard by the leg and ranting about the ferryman and the pale horse. Billy urges everyone on: "He's not our man." Tallahassee throws Billy the keys and draws the inmate off down a dead-end hallway. At the head of hallway D, the Major shoots a knife-wielding inmate dead. The radio's static rises to a shriek and a cold presence tries to take hold of Dr. Simeon, who forces it out by sheer force of will.

Cornered at the dead end, Tallahassee loads his soy-sauce bullet and waits until the charging inmate is at point-blank range. The shot only grazes the man's shoulder, but he drops instantly, just as Simeon did after drinking the vial. As more inmates come running toward the gunshots, Billy grabs the right key on his first try. Just as the lock of room six clicks open, the radio goes silent.

Funny Moments

  • The Major threatens to unleash the Deadlight box on Corbitt, in theory.
  • The Major insists to Corbitt that he really did net a car.
  • Simeon's major-league pitch somehow curves around both the nurse and the guard and hits every noisy object in the hallway.
  • The investigators line up in "mullet formation": business in the front, party in the back.
  • The room is marked as donated by the Church of Scientology.
  • "Eat soy!" —Tallahassee, followed by a retake as "the pale horse brings death."
  • "Everything's coming up Bill-house."
