John, called "Little John" by the investigators, is a gruff orderly at the Arkham Sanatorium, where Bernard Corbitt is being held.

In 301: No Rest for the Wicked, during the Major's account of his visit three days earlier, John escorts Major Bakersfield to Corbitt's room. He warns the Major not to touch anything or look into the other rooms, and remarks that the Major must have friends in high places, since nobody else has been let in and Corbitt has not been talking to anyone. He warns that his uniform should not fool anyone and threatens to throw the Major out if he steps out of line. When asked his name he says "Name's John" and adds a joke that is unclear in the recording. He gives the Major five minutes, warns Corbitt as well, and waits outside the door. When the time is up he comes back to end the visit.

In 412: My Enemy he is on the front desk at the Arkham Sanatorium, remembers the Major, reads the visitors' ledger listing the group as Corbitt's legal representation, disarms them, wheels Corbitt in and turns on the radio for him. Tallahassee tries to talk him into allowing an interview with the Miskatonic Mangler, and he says he might risk his job for that if he gets a big part in Tallahassee's next book.

In 417: Believe in What You Want he lets the investigators bring Corbitt's book into the maximum security wing, then takes a $1,000 bribe from Tallahassee to leave the wing, floor and room keys in the front desk for a 2:30 a.m. visit.

Appearances

In 418: Here it Goes the investigators find the keys he left in the front desk.
