Mister Corbitt
Summary
The investigators—Doctor Simeon Kantstandyerbitz, Tallahassee Turner, Billy McConnell, Dom Druncard, and Major Bakersfield—become suspicious of their neighbor, Bernard Corbitt, after witnessing him carry a suspicious package into his house. A brief glimpse suggests the package may contain a human body part, prompting the group to begin investigating the seemingly respectable man.
At first Corbitt appears to be an upstanding citizen. When authorities become involved, he easily deflects suspicion with plausible explanations and social charm. The investigators’ early attempts to gather evidence only make them look like troublemakers, drawing unwanted police attention.
Despite this setback, the group continues digging into Corbitt’s background. Their investigation reveals strange connections to a hospital orderly and hints that Corbitt may be acquiring human remains under suspicious circumstances. These discoveries lead them to believe Corbitt is involved in some kind of grotesque biological experimentation.
The situation escalates dramatically when Dom Druncard is kidnapped by an unknown assailant connected to Corbitt’s activities. Dom awakens trapped in the trunk of a car but manages to escape, fighting off his attacker with a tire iron and fleeing through the docks while attempting to record the vehicle’s license plate before contacting the police.
While Dom recovers, the rest of the investigators continue probing Corbitt’s secrets. A visit to Central Hospital reveals that a disgraced orderly named Randolph Tomaszewski had previously been responsible for disposing of surgical remains—remains that may have been diverted to Corbitt. This discovery strongly suggests that Corbitt has been assembling something from human body parts.
Eventually the investigators infiltrate Corbitt’s house and search the attic, discovering journals and other incriminating materials describing horrifying experiments. The writings suggest Corbitt is attempting to construct a monstrous creature using stolen body parts in service of some alien or occult purpose.
During the investigation Tallahassee Turner confronts Corbitt alone—an extremely poor decision. Corbitt reveals his true power, using unnatural magic to dominate Tallahassee’s mind. Turner is later discovered wandering naked and entranced, forced to obey Corbitt’s will until the other investigators manage to subdue and revive him.
As the group pieces together the truth, it becomes clear that Corbitt has created a monstrous stitched abomination—something between a child and an eldritch construct—that he intends to nurture as part of a larger, cosmic plan. The creature represents a possible gateway for a far greater horror to enter the world.
The investigators must decide how to deal with Corbitt, his experiments, and the creature he has created. Confronting him risks police attention, supernatural retaliation, and the possibility that the abomination may escape.
The case ultimately becomes a desperate attempt to stop Corbitt’s grotesque experiments before they unleash something far worse upon Arkham.
